"Rivera revives the promise of an American independent cinema that can intervene in our world, imagine the worst, hope for the best - and entertain like mad long the way."

SubCine
, the only source for independent Latino film and video, is currently organizing the national university tour for Alex Rivera's Sundance award-winning feature
Sleep Dealer.

Sleep Dealer is a truly unique film, packed with lush visuals and cutting-edge storytelling, and the perfect conversation-starter for discussions about issues as diverse as labor and immigration, technology and ethics, globalization and the environment.

Dennis Lim of The New York Times says "
Sleep Dealer taps into the cultural and economic fears that have come with a globalized planet… For all its newfangled trappings, Sleep Dealer reasserts a narrative as old as this country…"

The campus tour includes a presentation with filmmaker Alex Rivera, who will discuss
Sleep Dealer, as well as his earlier work (including The Sixth Section, Why Cybraceros?, and the Borders trilogy).

The film screenings and lectures address themes of:
* Immigration
* Globalization and information technology
* Latino Studies
* Cinema and Media Studies

If you would like to discuss the possibility of hosting an event featuring
Sleep Dealer, or would like further information about the film or about Alex Rivera, please contact us.

Presentations have already taken place at Harvard, Brown, UCLA, University of Texas at Austin, New York University, Rutgers, and Duke University among many others.

Alex Rivera has been widely recognized for using digital media to explore issues of immigration and Latino identity. He is a Rockefeller Fellow, a Sundance Fellow, and recently received the USA Artists Fellowship.
